Greetings fellow eZ publish Developers,

I am re posting today a request I have submitted to the eZ publish 2.2 forums and [email protected]
I wanted to post to at least one eZ Publish 3 forum (like Suggestions) to ask other eZ publish 3
developers their opinion regarding the changes to the eZ publish forum introduction & the eZ publish
community section.

I know that this post may be a little bit off topic, yet after several repeat instances it seems
fairly clear that I have noticed a problem with the layout of the site which is creating a problem
for the new users of the forum which is misleading newbie eZ publish 3 users incorrectly into the eZ publish 2 forums.

I wanted to take the time to see if this subject struck accord with other users of the eZ systems community section & eZ publish forum introduction. Looking forward to your feedback.

Respectfully,
Graham Brookins

Dear ez.no Webmaster,

I am writing to you today to respectfully request a much need change to the ez.no site.

I don't often tell others that their site has a bug which is incorrectly guiding users to the wrong content or forum area, yet
I belive I have found one on ez.no.

I believe the link in the introduction of the eZ publish 3 forums is leading newbie users incorrectly into the eZ publish 2.2
forums. These newbie users then get lost in the eZ publish 2.2 forums and post without realizing that they are posting into
the wrong forums and disrupting the existing forum users conversations with off topic and in complete questions about eZ
publish3 in the wrong forums. Usually the newbie posts are not clear in their posts which product they are using eZ publish
2.2 or eZ publish 3, as a result many conversations go on for 2-5 posts before a competent developer notices that the newbie
question is being asked in the wrong forum, which goes against the eZ systems forum guidelines.

As documented in this fact posted to the eZ publish 2.2 forums:
http://ez.no/ez_publish/cms/ez_publish_2_2/forum/setup_design/importing_data_into_ezp#msg55125

I truly hope that you can understand why such a small change can be made to maintain the integrity of what remains of the eZ
publish 2.2 forums and it's dedicated users is becoming vital at this point in time.

eZ publish 3 has clearly surpassed eZ publish 2.2 in development, developers, sites using, and forum activity.

It no longer makes sense for the eZ publish 3 forums introduction to guide users to the eZ publish 2.2 forums.

Respectfully,
Graham Brookins

Here Is the content of that post (abbreviated):

I belive rather that it is the link in the eZ publish 3.x forums introduction that is the source of this confusion:
http://ez.no/community/forum

Which says:

For forums for eZ publish 2.2 look here.

I belive users who have no previous background in eZ publish 2.x or 3.x click the link in the introduction and get "lost" in
the older eZ publish 2.x forums and post blindly.

This is like the 2nd or 3rd post I've answered that turned into a 3-4 post exchange only to find the thread was started in the
wrong forums. I'm a little annoyed. Not because users post poorly, they don't know any better. It has more todo with eZ
systems branding of eZ publish 2.2 content on their site.

The link to the eZ publish 3 forum's introduction served a valuable shortcut for existing eZ publish 2 developers to get to
the eZ publish 2 forums quickly back in 2003 (?) when eZ publish 3 was just getting started and eZ publish 2 developers still
frequented the forums. Now it seems that the link causes more problems than it is worth.

I don't know if eZ systems staff read the eZ publish 2 forums, If they do, I know I for one would like to call for a change in
the eZ publish 3 forum's introduction. Specifically the removal of the eZ publish 2.2 forums link.

It is not helping the real users and developers of eZ publish 2.2 get to the forums, instead it is littering the eZ publish
2.2 forums with eZ publish 3 questions from newbie users who get lost and basically don't know what they are doing.

I would rather like to see a link added to the community section at the very bottom right hand corner for which says:
Previous releases:
eZ Publish 2.2

Which links to the eZ publish 2.2 project page.
Which would match the branding of eZ publish 2.2 already in place on the page:
http://ez.no/ez_publish

eZ systems, please help us maintain what little community we have left by repositioning the eZ publish 2.2 links as described
above.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and effort in this regard.

Respectfully,
Graham Brookins

I jest but it seems like it's true sometimes . . .

kracker,

Thanks for your contructive feedback.

I've moved the link to the bottom of the page in order to prevent newcomers getting stuck in the 2.2 forums when they are most likely looking for the 3 forums.

Frederik, Ole M, eZ systems,

On behalf of everyone who wasn't able to comment but may agree at least in part with the ideas presented.
Thank You!

It just tears right through me to be heard and to foster a positive change for others.
Perhaps on par as being actually heard and understood by the eZ crew, even if it is on such a small item.

With the expected, You All Rock! Keep up the great work, Thanks again!

Cheers,
Graham Brookins
