Clarification of svn usage

Today i noticed svn has a stable branch for 3.2. It would be nice if there was an updated doco stating the usage for svn branches.

The branch for 3.1 has had a lot of updates on it since 3.1 was released and the update files suggest there will be a 3.1.1 release at some point. Is this forthcoming?

With the 3.2 branch does this mean you would recommend using this branch for all 3.2 code? And does this suggest the trunk is now effectively being used for 3.3 work?

Sorry for the many questions but i hope you see my point! :)

Yup, I see your point. :)
I'll write some documentation for this explaining our development cycle.

Wonderful Jan!

In addition to this it may be worth posting items on the forums to announce new branches or the like. Maybe we need an ez announce forum for official announcements (not quite front page news items...).

I note in your document you state there is only one active stable branch at a time. If there was such a forum announcement declaring the 3.2 branch, for example, it would be clear that the 3.1 stable is effectively closed (subject to security fixes...). Same applies for 3.0.

This allows users/developers to use the branch they are interested in and leave the trunk alone unless they really must use it.

Personally i update 3.1 and now 3.2 regularly. 3.1 to see if anything has occurred there that i need to use, and now im working with 3.2 i am testing to see how simple it is to upgrade, what breaks, etc.

Hmm, this kind of suggests that if branches are not being actively worked on a handy tarball of 3.X might be linked to? :)

Good document.

A forum or separate announcement list would be good. We can then information on when branch etc.
