Hi,

I have EzPublish 3.9 for a quite time running windows XP.
Now I bought a new machine that comes with windows Vista and I want to install EzPublish 4 on that one.
But unfortunately I'm facing some problems to do so because I need to install Apache 1.3 (as there's no Apache 2 on prefork mode for windows) and i have errors to start it. I searched for a solution but without success. All I could find was a solutions to get Apache 2 running on Windows Vista.

So my question is: Have anyone tried to install ezPublish 4 on Windows Vista?

Because It seams to be almost impossible to install Apache 1.3 on Vista to get EzPublish running on it.

Thanks in advance for any answer.

Hi,

Apache2 is the only solution for Vista AFAIK. It is working quite well, you can run latest eZ Publish version on it without problems.

Hi Łukasz,

Thanks a Lot for your answer.

You just saved my day.

What I don't understand is why it is not specified on the documentation pages. I found the following recommendation there: "On Windows, it is recommended to use the latest version of the 1.3 branch. (Apache 2.x for Windows is not supported since it only exists in "threaded" mode.)". (http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/4_0/installation/normal_installation/requirements_for_doing_a_normal_installation)

Anyway, I just want to be shore about one think: Can I use any Apache 2.x version for the propose I want to or there are any restrictions?

Recommendations are for prod setup, for development there is no problem.

Using Vista x64 w/ wampserver 2 (Apache 2.x + php 5.2.x) here myself.
Only problems I have is with APC and Xdebug, they make the apache setup unstable so I don't use them atm. And the fact that it is 4 times slower then same computer with Linux, but I can live with that if I manage to find a solution to the APC issue soon...

Ok. Thank you all for your help.

I would like to leave here my opinion: I think that it should be specified in the documentation pages what other options we have to install and run ezPublish. As I could see, there's no information that the doc recommendations are for prod setup and not for development.
This could facilitate a bit some other people.

Good suggestion. We will take in to account.

As Andre wrote, the biggest issue while developing with eZ Publish on Windows Vista I found is stability issue when it comes to the Xdebug and APC support and for sure this will not change in near future, as the way how Apache and PHP are compiled for windows had to change.
