Install a Forum

Hi,

I need to install forums into my existing ezPublish site. I have the 'forum' package installed, but there are no content classes or any other obvious forum settings. How do I set up a forum? After 2 hours of trawling the forums, all I've found is references to obscure functions in ezpublish 2.1 and a suggestion to 'copy and paste' from the demo site.

Copy and paste what?

I feel like I must be missing something obvious here - surely having the package 'installed' means the classes should be there too?

Please help!
Simon

Honestly,

And I could be wrong, so don't hold me to it but ...

<b>If</b> you don't see any forum classes / objects in your eZ publish administrator, then odds are you did not install the (optional) forum component.

Example Screenshot of, Step 6: Site functionality (Setup Wizzard): http://ez.no/ez_publish/guided_tours/setup_wizard_guide/step_6_site_functionality

I really don't think you have the forum options installed.
If I were you, I would restart the setup and try again or start over from scratch. Pay close attention to make sure your installing into the correct database.

Hope this helps,

That is entirely possible!

However, the site is somewhat developed - I really don't want to start again from scratch just to add this functionality. What do these options actually do on the filesystem/database layer? Can I import them by hand? I have no worries about getting my hands dirty in SQL and php!

Thanks,
Simon

I believe you can simply restart the setup wizard and do an in-place upgrade.

By adding a setting to your settings/siteaccess/(name)/site.ini.append.php which will restart the site in setup mode.

# Simply Add this value to enable the setup wizard.
# Set to true if you want the setup system to be activated
CheckValidity=true

Once you have done this I belive you can simply hit the site as normal to update your site existing code / database without over writing your existing information.

I belive it is Step 7: Site details which will give you the option (not shown on the screenshot below) that will prompt you how to deal with the existing database information.

You might want to double check this to make sure, and always backup your code and database before doing things your not familiar with ...

Sadly I do not know of a simple way of doing this with just sql and source code, ( I too wish for the alternative to the setup ) sadly I think this is the only way.

cheers,

Thanks for your help with this one - very much appreciated.

Although the packages were supposedly installed, something had gone wrong - as you indicated. Fortunately, I've got it working fine by uninstalling and re-installing the forums package from the setup screen.

So just a tip for anyone else out there who's missing classes - <b>try a re-install of the package</b>. It worked for me!
