Difference between Linux and Windows distros

Hi All,

I'm just wondering where the majority of differences between the Linux and Windows distributions lay?

Reason I ask is that I was intending to start a new project on my in house Linux box then migrate it to my Linux web server, however I have run into some snags with my in house box and have had no choice but to begin the development on a Windows box.

I assume the templates will not change between the two because everything I have done so far is working and I usually do this work on the Linux box, I also presume the ini files are identical but I'm not 100% sure.

Basically my plan (if possible) is to get the dev site up to a certain point mostly regarding the templates and ini then attempt to migrate them to the Linux server and if possible try to migrate the database. I figure the database should be fine as long as I keep the character encoding etc the same?

Has anyone had any experience doing this? Or can someone from eZ maybe point out some obvious stumbling blocks with this type of development cycle?

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers
Nathan.

Hi Nathan

There's no difference between the various downloads on http://ez.no/download except for how they are packed (tar.gz, tar.bz2, zip). Only if you want to use one of the installers (currently missing however for eZ Publish 4) then you need to choose the right one for your operating system.

Cool thanks Kristof,

This is great, I was worried that I may have just waisted a couple of days or at least attracted some unwanted issues, but now I know this I'm less stressed.

Thanks
Nathan.
