I'm evaluating OSS CMS systems for use at our school. The role-based security model is very clear to me, but I haven't been able to determine if it's possible to establish nested groups of users that are based on subject matter in addition to administrative roles. Is this easy to do in eZpublish? For example, some users would have administrative rights only to the Athletics area of the site, but read-only access to the Curriculum area.

Also, eZpublish in some ways resembles Plone, but is based on PHP rather than Python and Zope.

As far as I know, eZ Publish can do what you want. You can even choose between two ways of controlling it; subtree and section.

I've got a similar concern.
I'm trying to do the following:
2 group of users.
Each group will be able to login and view different content.
For example, group A can view folder A.
Group B, can view folder B.
On top of this, I would like my users to be able to upload files. (non admin users)
Is this possible with Ezpublish. if so, what are the procedures.
Thanks much,
Ben

Have a read at the docs about access control:
