Publishing cleares all cache?

I'm running a site on a 3.6.0 (SVN-revision: 11973) version of eZ Publish, on an Intel Xeon 2.40GHz server with 1GB RAM.

The site I'm running is a community site, with member profiles, messaging system, forum etc.

The problem is that the site is running awfully slow when more than 2-3 users are online at the same time.

In some old postings at the ez-forum I got the impression that any publishing will clear all cache. Is this still the case?

Our users daily send about 200 messages, and generate 30-40 forum postings. They also update their profiles by creating lots of "interest"-objects as child objects to their own user.

So, if eZ is clearing all the cache each time someone publishes anything of this, how much can I manipulate this function? How?

Any answers or thoughts greatly appriciated :)

You need to read more about the "smart cache/viewcache"

see settings/viewcache.ini
