Loading related image/related object problem (select button disappears)

I have an article that is a few folders deep

>Issues>Refugees>features>article

i am trying to either add an image as a related object or embedded picture, and the image is located in both the news section under media files and the top section media....

when i finally get to where the picture is, the select button disappears.
