Hi all, For a number of times I've already heard of eZ Project V (I hope I didn't confuse the name), which is meant to be a rewrite of eZ Publish based on eZ Components. The project is said to have started already. Just wondering if that's true, and also wondering when we will be able to learn something more official about it. I believe it would be also great to discuss/speculate/make suggestions within the community regarding the project. Not sure if that will be possible at this stage - I expect a long process, but couldn't stand waiting already ;)

Hi, as Project V (or whatever) is <b>the</b> most important and interesting process at present, I would like to suggest a developer blog where news on the development is posted and the community can come with brilliant comments etc. Felix

Yup, that would be great, even though I don't expect such a radical info exchange any time soon... But I like to get surprised! ;) Until then, I'm looking forward to any official info at all ;) What I am wondering about most is the direction in which eZ Publish will go. Naturally I expect some misfunctional or problematic things to be tackled, but will the general content management concepts remain functionally unchanged? Or is there a completely new approach being considered...

Hello We'll post some information in the next (few) months, but for the most hungry: We'll proceed on two fronts: 1) optimise the performance of the current kernel without altering much of the architecture (there is some room, especially regarding caching and clustering). 2) Build a new kernel (aka ProjectV for now), inheriting most of the powerful concepts of what we have today, but with focus on performance, scalability, developer friendliness, user friendliness and a fertile ground for new features. The latter will of course involve eZ Components. Track 1) is short term, while track 2) is mid-term. If you want to know more soon, we can organise a bar/beer camp (with English as the main language) in Leuven, Belgium this fall or a bit later if there would be enough attendants. So your vote here is quite important to start organising this. Paul

Hello Paul, Thanks for your reply! I do remember this two-track approach from your presentation at the conference. Of course, it would be great to know what's up with both, but I believe we're going to follow the current-kernel track anyways, because that stands the upcoming 4.x versions. So, I think the Project V would be most interesting here. Since you're suggesting a meeting, I assume there must be already quite a bit to talk about, isn't it so? This would be great to meet up, but to know what's the current stage of the project and how much there is to discuss would actually be helpful to make the decision ;) But that's me, let's hear to some other people.

Count me in for the Bar Camp! I'd be most interested in the idea of pluggable content storage. And I'd like to present the distributed version control system GIT and how it could help us (the ecosystem) to contribute to the development of Project V. @Piotrek: Much of the work for Project V is done in the eZ Components and you could for example see the MVC part growing right now.

Thomas, That's a good point! Even though I know that components are meant for that, I admit that I didn't watch them closely recently, especially not from future-of-eZ perspective, but that's probably what I should do. Thanks. Still, eZ Components are meant as a universal set of tools as well, so I expect that very much will depend on how they're put together.

Hi wouldn't want to sound to pessimistic, but isn't it the same roadmap we discussed in skien in 2007 ? Start integrating ezcomponents in the short term (eg. templating, I remember a demo ok Kristof) and complete rewrite of the kernel based on ezc ? X+ P.S. Always ready for a beer
