Suggestions on workflow and approval

Hi,

I have the following suggestions:

1) I can't define that a group of people should be allowed to approve content. If the guy being responsible for approval is on vacation there is no way to approve the pending content.. ?
Ok, I could redefine the workflow during the vacation, but the pending approvals are not moved to the substitute :-(

So my suggestion is:
A group of people should be allowed to approve content. As soon as the content is approved by one member of the group, the workflow continues.
If I change the workflow it should be possible to move pending documents to the new user/group which is then in charge for approval.

2) Why is there no way to edit content that is pending ?
There should be some functionality that allows me to get a document out of the pending queue eg. there is last minute information which should be included. It is unsatisfying that this content has to be denied before I can edit it again.

3) Why is there no way to edit content during approval ?
If there are minor changes all I could do is to publish the document and change it afterwards or deny it ?

concerning 2) and 3):
I've tried to publish a document by date. Unfortunately I've entered 2010-01-01 as date for testing. I hope there will be some way to get the damn thing out there before 2010.... :-(
There is really no way to access content which is waiting until date ?

4) Collaboration
Why is there an inbox and no other groups ?
I want to delete messages from collaboration or if that is still not possible at least I want to move them to a folder eg. denied, approved, trash

5) Status of documents in workflow queue
The message:
The content object <whatever> was approved and will be published once the publishing workflow continues.
is rather unsatisfying.
Any chance to see in which stage of the defined workflow the document resides ?

I wonder if I am the only one who misses the above functionality ?
Or did I miss something, since I am rather new to eZ Publish ?

Hi Andreas

These things have been raised quite a few times but I think the workflow is not as heavily used as other features also needing attention. I agree with all your points and have mentioned them on many occasions too. I hope the ez team do find time to include improvements on these areas soon.

No you aren't the only one, and yes, ez is well aware of the limitation of the workflow.

About moderating by group, I remember having read something about it being implemented. If I'm right, the latest version (3.6.1) should offer that feature.

Do a search, I don't remember the details.

I think they are all good suggestions. A comment above is that workflow is not heavily used - I believe the lack of functionality prevents it being used more (we still use it however in a limited fashion).

A big vote for these features. We are constandtly frustrated by the very limited workflow/collaboration features in eZ publish, which are impracitcal for managing even modest sized sites. Please implement soon! :-)
