Bringing together forum and mailinglists

I have a little (well, not really little, it needs quite some time and work, I think) suggestion. When I reactivated my account I had from experimenting with ezp2.0 on this site, [email protected] began to send me all new messages in the forum.

This is a very handy feature, and it could actually be even much more useful if there would be the possibility to just reply to such a mail and get your answer straight to the forum.

So, this would be some kind of the forum emulating a mailinglist.
I know, it takes a lot of work to make ezp receiving mails, but I think it could be worth it, and maybe there are other uses for receiving mail than emulating a mailinglist.

I would be happy to help with that, even though I'm just beginning to learn the system from a web-guy-perspective.

I first thought filing that as a suggestion-bug, but in the forum it can be further discussed and maybe later filed as a bug.

Lukas, this is a good idèa. It's we've also discussed this before and have actually already built similar feature for an other project. There are some practical problems like how much of the mail should actually be posted in the forum, but it would be a nice feature to have in eZ publish.

Technically it shoundn't be too much work.

Bård, is there a possibility that this will be implemented in the forseeable future?

This feature would be a wonderful contribution, but I think it would be difficult to prevent spam/abuse.

If a user is required to register on the site first, then the system could check incoming messages against the list of registerd users, which would significantly reduce the liklihood of abuse and spam.

Alex, this is not part of what we have planned for 3.5 so I can't promise anything. I would like to see this feature here on ez.no, mabye we will do it as part of the constant feature upgrade of ez.no. We should ask Ole nicely for this feature ;)

Yes, I like this idea as well. I'll add it to my list, however my list is pretty long at the moment so I can't promise anything.

Ole, is there any chance you might be so kind as to share your current list with us? It would be exciting to see what is coming.

Thanks!

Alex, yes I can of course post my list. However the first round of community things is almost done. Most of the task in the near future is not directly related to the community, but other things that needs to be done on ez.no.
