Have read through the documentation on this site, and also went through the new article on SitePoint. In the case of the Sitepoint article I do get somewhere, but it still does not work as it is supposed to.

I read on these forums someone suggesting that the best thing is to copy the demo design and site access folders and re-name them to one's own design.

Can someone tell me exactly what is the best way to start with customisation because its very confusing!

Also, is it best to start with the demo data then delete it, or start with a blank installation?

Thanks for any help...

Jonathan,

If you have time to fiddle with the system I would highly recommend you start experimenting with altering the templates and creating new pages. Think of a couple of tasks that you would want to do on the site and try to replicate them in eZ publish. This will lead you down a path of learning how to grab lists of items for display, altering the page layout and overriding page layouts.

In addition to familiarizing yourself with the eZ publish markup language, I would recommend you check out the information on overriding templates: http://www.ez.no/developer/ez_publish_3/documentation/customization/custom_design/override_templates

This experience can be confusing at first which is why I recommend you break it down into tasks that allow you to tackle the learning in small doses. Also, there is a lot of information throughout the forums regarding how to achieve certain layouts which should help you as you develop your site, and the board tends to be pretty good about answering specific questions. :)
