Hello,

I've installed eZ publish 3 a few days ago using the windows installer. Everything works well, and I can edit the demo site on my computer. But my question is: "How can I develop my own site?" Do I have to install eZ publish on my web space, how do I do that,...

If your computer is not public shared on the internet you need to publish it on your own web-space, yes.

The first thing to do is to find a webhotel that supports the things needed. I reccomand a Linux server, apache 1.3, PHP 4.2.3 (or later), ImageMagick installed. And of course a database, I reccomand MySQL.

You need about 50 MB of space to innstall EZ, and of course some extra for your content. 100 MB total is fine for small sites.

To follow some of the installing procedures described here on ez.no you need ssh access, wich you rarly get with hosts, so instead you can also just download EZ to your computer, unpack it, and FTP the files over to your server.

then just goto www.yourdomain.com/index.php and the setup screen is shown. Just follow the instructions and you should be fine. Sometimes the install is a bit tricky because of somethings on the server is not "right tuned", so I would recommand you to a host that has good customer service, or has hosted EZ before.

Always install WITH demo data when you are new and unsure of EZ.

After you have done this, you can start publish on the internet. There are some documentation on how to make your own design etc around on this site, and in the forum.

Best regards and good luck.

One note, ImageMagick is not a requirement now that GD is working properly in 3.1. This may give you a little more leeway to choose a host for your site.

Also, if you don't already have a host, you may want to check out the eZ partner pages as there may be some hosts who already have eZ publish set up for their hosting accounts. This might make life easier if you aren't interested in the system administration details.

That is true, Alex.

And yes you can choose a host from partner list with ez preinstalled. It will save you work, indeed. But it might be good training to install it yourself. But then again, far too many has given up on ez just because of trouble with innstallation.
