I'd like to replace the static banner with a Flash file (.swf). I was hoping it would be as simple as uploading the .swf file in Admin--similar to an image file--but obviously this isn't the case. I'm hoping someone will tell me how to do this. Thanks in advance.

Hi Brian,

This is certainly possible in ezpublish 4.0 with the ezwebin interface, I know, I've done it!

What you have to do is make sure you upload the swf into the media banner folder as a flash file and not a banner/image type.

Also make sure you define the dimensions or it won't show up.

I hope that helps

There is a very good website: http://www.bannermakersite.com. You can edit flash banners free! You are not required to registrate at all, if You just want to have a look at the pictures and flash animations You could useon Your own banners! You are also allowed to try the editor in the case You haven’t registrated yet. I guarantee that You are going to registrate in the case You try it, because this site is fantastic.

Brian,

The way we usually solve the banner issue is the following:

1) We have a flash banner module, that is a swf file that constitutes a frame for displaying banners. This module is capable of dynamically loading and displaying images (class image) or other swf files (class flash or flash banner), showing the loading progress etc. The module is part of the design, you don't manage it, while the real flash/jpeg banners are stored somewhere in the media library.

2) All the 'structure' classes (used to create the general structure) have an attribute 'top banner', most likely of object relation type. If a page (or any other type of structure content) requires a unique banner, we simply choose one. Otherwise, the global setting (or any other rule) can be set.

Hope this helps.
