Hi all,

Initially I had a problem in the admin interface, not beeing able to delete all cache. The system returned with a fatal error..

Out of mind, I deleted the cache folders via ftp, the /var/cache/ and everything under /var/news_site/cache/ .

My Site is pretty messed up now, and i have no clue what to do?

Some of the error messages I get:

THESE FILES DO NOT EXIST ANYMORE, SINCE I DELETED THEM.

What can I do. Permissions on var are on 777.

Please help, my boss is gonna kill me, if he finds out, that 4 month of work are gone...

I would new-install 3.9 now, but I am wondering if I can merge my date easily? Because I have a very big pic library, which I don't want to loose?

So, is there any possibility to make a fresh install, and copy the old data in the new system. All the articles and pics I have?

Or can I undo my mistake of deleting the cache files somehow?

Any help really appreciated..

Used ez: 3.8.6
PHP: 4.4
mysql: Upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1 . Could the problem be this silent upgrade?

thanks folks,

Claudia Kosny

Hello Ahmed

Deleting the content of the cache folder usually is not a big problem, I actually prefer emptying the cache this way as it it faster than doing it via the interface. Therefore I wonder a bit about your problem now. Did you delete the cache folders or just the content of these folders? If you deleted the folders itself, check whether there are back now. If not, create them. Make sure that the permissions for the cache folders are set to 777 as well.

And before you try anything further, make a backup of the var folder and the database.

Before making a fresh install of eZ 3.9 and trying to get the data in there, I would try making a fresh install of EZ 3.8.6 (first try on another server). Then copy the design, the settings, the var/news_site/storage folder into the new installation and replace the database with yours.
Empty the cache of this new installation (contrary to your experience it really should not matter whether you do it on the filesystem or not) and refresh the page. If that works, update this to 3.9, if you want to.

Good luck

Claudia

Hello Claudia,

I really appreciate your valuable and fast response. Thanks!

I will try your suggestions and keep you posted.

The behaviour with the var folder is strange to me as well, but we'll see.

regards, ahmed
