#1: I don't think you get the node ID via the edit function but it's the site map function that works best for that. (The edit function gives you the object id). Browse the sitemap in the admin and click on the node you want, voila, the last number in the url should be the node id. #2: How exactly (technically), I don't know. But you assign sections to nodes via the set-up menu, I think. Go to set-up -> sections and there you have a section list. Click on a section you want to assign, then you can browse the node tree and assign there. I am not sure how all the children of a node are handled, i.e. whether they automatically inherit the section of the parent, but that should be easy to find out.
