You will need to create a new section from the Setup tab (/yoursite_admin/section/list/) in the admin for this. Once you create the new section, assign it (from the same screen) to the parent folder that you want to protect. Then, create a new role in the User tab that will have access to the secure area. The only rule will need to be content module, read access, to the new section that you have created. Then assign that role to a user group, and all users in that group will be able to see the content after logging in.
