Hiding folders in navigation menu

After ploughing through the forum and not finding a solution I decided to ask for help ;)

My situation is as follows. I've placed a navigation menu on the left side of my site, that shows the top-folders and one level lower (i.e. mycompany, mycompany->news, etc).
The top-folders all have a different section assigned to them with their own template (primarily colorscheme changes here). The subfolders have the same section assigned as their parent, so they have the same colorscheme.
Now I want to hide the mycompany->news link. I can't limit my fetch on section, because there are more folders with this section that I DO want to show. Same with classes. This also excludes the possibility to use roles to hide the folder (which I didn't want to do anyway).
Quite a long story to lead to my question: Isn't there some checkbox with which you can hide certain elements from the visitors to your site (sort of an active/non-active option)? Or an attribute that can be checked on?

TIA,

Vivienne

Yes, you can check on attributes, not the directly in the fetch function, but in a loop on the fetch results and display or do something else with it. You may need to extend the classes with such an attribute.

Thanks Paul,

I added a 'visible' attribute to the items which I wanted to check on and it works like a charm.
