Has anyone implemented a filter for offensive language? We've already using recaptcha, but would like to add an automatic system of evaluating whether a forum post or reply contains offensive words. Thanks!

Moderation is stronger, cheaper ...

One would need a needlessly complicated sub-system and tiered lists (dictionaries) of offensive strings by a number of different criteria. Profanity strings, obfuscated strings, banned strings, etc ..

It could be built, the data could be prepared in some fashion, still the l33ts would still throw it down into obfuscation.

Where would you place such a system of evaluation? Content module, datatype, hrm ... You would prolly want admin controls for the system as well. Sounds like a fine idea to place into the issue tracker perhaps file as a suggestion.

We built a "Flag this content as inappropriate" function for one of our sites. It allows users to email an administrator to tell them if they think something is objectionable, and they are able to choose a reason why.

It is modeled after the Youtube meta-moderation system.

If you are interested in something like that, I can see if we can package it up as a contribution.

Thanks to both of you for your wisdom! I'll check and see which way we want to go. Kracker, in suggesting this could be a new feature request, you've reminded me that it could also be an open funding project.
