dsiplaying parent node

How does one display the parent node? I could do it in 3.3 but am not able to in 3.4, and have searched the forums and documentation and could not get either

fetch(content,list,hash(parent_node_id,$node.parent_node_id))

or

{$module_result.node_id}

or

$DesignKeys:used.parent_node

to work,
