Hi All,

What would be the ideal architecture for a large-scale portal?
The structure must be horizontal or vertical?
Where can I find content examples of more complex sites or portals?

Thanks

Hi,

Good question, also waiting for opinions/experience of others.

I'm not a architecture expert, but perhaps the best is to have a mix of them...

With eZ Publish we have deployed horizontal systems (using cluster). In one case we could say it is a hor/vert mix because mysql server in the cluster environment had a previous vertical architecture design...

With server cost dropping every day (for example some days ago one of my server providers has launched new root servers with 8GB for 49€/month!) a horizontal architecture could be even cheap...

Also for large-scale portals based on eZ Publish I would take in care varnish (or other caches) that also can act in cluster mode.

If you will be in Paris (http://ez.no/company/ez_conference_awards/web_content_management_track) the presentation of Dariusz Glazewski and Frank Dege could be very helpful in your case...
