"Add Location" & "Related Objects" turn out unexpectedly... frustrated

I just installed EZPublish 3.5, and found out a very convenient "Add Location" for my objects. However, to my surprise, this function has serious design flaw in that it doesn't display the children.

Then, I tried to see if "Related Objects' can fit my objective. Turns out it's something much more weird in that it displays a hyperlink only...

I was wondering if you guys could help me here.

Here's what I'm trying to do.

Badgers (1)
- Badger A
- Badger B
- Badger C

Snakes (2)
- Snake A
- Snake B
- Snake C
- Badger C (same content but the hyperlink points back to URL /badgers/badger_c/)

Unfortunately, the "Add Location" results in something similar to copying the content over to the /snakes/ folder. I seriously don't want two URLs containing the same content.

Could I solve my problem with "Related Objects"? It would seem the default "Related Objects" is a stripped down version of what it can do.

Thanks much!

Could anyone shed light on this problem?

I really don't exactly get your problem. Do you want to have the menu contain Badger C in both locations? In that case, add location is for you (it doesn't copy anything, it just creates another URL for the same object).

Hi Gabriel,

Thanks for your reply.

Basically, what I want is to have my 'main' URL remain the same in other secondary locations.

Say, I've added an object to folder A, and also added a location to folder B. When viewing folder B, I would like the URL to point to the same object URL in folder A.

I desperately need this feature... could anyone pls help? My whole site rely on this to function.

In my original thread, I've said "Related Objects" maybe the key to this... but all it does is to add a link whereas I want the flexibility of adding locations without duplicating the URL.

Thanks much for any help!

You probably have now something like (simplified code)

{section loop=$children var=child}
  <a href={$child.url_alias|ezurl}
{/section}

You can point to the main location by using

{section loop=$children var=child}
  <a href={$child.object.main_node.url_alias|ezurl}
{/section}

Thanks. That's a simple fix. No wonder you're the moderator.

BTW, could you link me to doc that contains 'changing URL' info?
