Which version should I use?

Rod Simpson	Monday 22 August 2011 7:57:10 pm Kind of a dumb question, but the various versions don't give a lot of information. What is the latest version that is stable? I downloaded 2011.8 but once I got it installed there seemed to be issues editing the home page node (the left zone and right zone tabs were nowhere to be found). The whole thing was kind of confusing so perhaps it was fine and I just didn't know what I was doing. But I just wanted to make sure I am using the right version. Thank you in advance.

The stability level of the eZ Publish Community Project build is lower, by nature, compared to eZ Publish Enterprise Edition : the innovation pace & volume is much higher. More information regarding this in the build policy for Community Project. When it comes to your issue, it appears you installed the eZ Flow package from the initial setup wizard. I did the same locally and the home page edition works fine (i can properly see the tabs you mention). Did you pick the package containing demo content ? Is there any relevant information in the debug output ? (see how to enable debug output ). Last : you may want to share a screenshot of what you are seeing. Rod Simpson	Tuesday 23 August 2011 2:25:36 pm Thank you for posting. Here a screenshot of what I see: http://metalmoon.com/ezpub.png I did use the Ezflow demo content. I don't know if it matters, but I did get the 30 second timeout error before changing my php.ini file to up the execution time. As for the debug, I turned it on, but nothing except for things that seemed to be related to timing. I guess I will try to use the 2011.6 or 7 versions.

Rod Simpson	Wednesday 24 August 2011 6:18:28 pm I do appreciate your help. I tried the install with the ezflow 2 more times with the recent version and got the same error so I gave up and tried the other option during the install (website something or another). Now when I load the admin page it won't show the sub items. I get a javascript error: Line: 1035 Error: Unable to get value of the property 'getSub': object is null or undefined I tried it in chrome, FF5 and ie8. All gave the same result. Edit: I figured out that the problem was with rewrite rules that were in place in the Apache httpd.conf file. When I removed these and switched to using the .htaccess file, everything seems to work. I guess my last question is (without going through all the changelog files), what are the advantages of using the 2011.x versions over the last 4.4 version? I am not looking for a complete catalog, just a yes you should or no you shouldn't kind of answer. My primary goal is stability. From what I can see, 4.4 seems to have all the features I need (I plan to write some new classes to suit my needs). What is the most stable version? Thank you, Rod
Nicolas Pastorino	Thursday 25 August 2011 1:21:15 am Hi Rod, Glad to hear you found the issue. I am sure you can test eZ Flow again, it should be working now. Concerning the interrogation about the version choice : in short, the two options are : eZ Publish Community Project : "Constant, cutting-edge innovation" eZ Publish Enterprise Edition : "Stable & supported enterprise features" If you are about to run a business-critical platform, based on eZ Publish, the second option is the safest way to go. The two months of feature-freeze-and-bug-fixing happening right before the Enterprise Edition release ensure stability. This has a (financial) cost though, but brings, on top of this stability, support from the vendor. The first option is not as stable as the second, due to the higher pace & volume channeled into the code repository, but gives the flexibility of a free (speech & beer) solution, and proposes more innovative features. More frequent upgrades are required to stay current, but the eZ Community is here to share experience and help (not as reactive as a dedicated support channel, obviously). For basic usages (maybe the one you are planning ?), Community Project works. Rod Simpson	Thursday 25 August 2011 5:55:41 pm Nicolas, Thank you for the prompt reply. I think however, that I wasn't clear in my questions. What I meant was which release of the Community Project is known to be the most stable? Or are you saying that all the community editions are buggy? My client is a small company and could never afford the cost of the Enterprise edition. You can tell when a company won't even post their price that it is going to be expensive (if you have to ask, you can't afford it!). Thank you, Rod
