The early databases for eZ publish 3 had some wrong section information on the user tree. So what you need to do is to create a new section, call is users, and select navigation part "users".

This section needs to be assigned to the top level user group. Click the assign (paperclip icon) and it will bring you to the browse page. The browse page is not designed to work with users, so you need to do a trick. Enter 5 as the top node id in the url ( is normally 2 ). This will bring you to the user tree. Select the top level user group and click select.

Then the nagivation part should be set correctly for the users.

Alternatively you can use the supplied sql file that comes with eZ publish, which has this set up correctly.

This is the most insane workaround I have ever seen :-)

I did not understand at all how this could affect the roles missing in the admin-GUI, and I'm not shure I want to, I think it's a bit scary ;-)

...anyway it worked.

The roles was never missing, you could just have typed the URL to the role list to manage the roles. All this did was add information that when you browse the user tree it should report to the navigation part for the users.

This is just a design issue and has _nothing_ to do with roles at all. The users was displayed in the content navigation section and since the users is the default menu to be displayed you did not get the role menu ( i.e. the link to the role list ).

I did see that the roles worked, but they where working for CIA - they where hidden :-) And, it was how to get them back in the standard admin-GUI that was the funny and strange part :)
