What different from two way upgrade eZ Publish?

It is very easy to do, and hard to get wrong while upgrade. But in eZ Publish, I read on the manual: http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/upgrading/upgrading_to_4_0/from_4_0_x_to_4_0_y and I see that the upgrade steps do the opposite way: copy the design, var, settings, extension to the new version and then modify the virtual server to the new version, or delete the old and then move the new to root folder. So would you please to explain why eZ Publish upgrade is more complicated? Thanks so much!
