I can't get past this seemingly simple problem. My error is exactly the same as that described above by so many others.

I've modified the php.ini files. I've added the line to the .htaccess_root file. I've restarted my localhost server and I still get the same error. If it's a PHP environment issue, then these things should have solved the problem.

I'm running XAMPP 1.6.6a on Windows.

Even when I try to run the Finetune option, I get this error:

<b>Fatal error: eZ Publish did not finish its request
The execution of eZ Publish was abruptly ended, the debug output is present below.</b>

But there's no debug output anywhere on the page.

And when I click "Next >" I just get a blank screen.

What can I do? I can't start using this product without getting it installed. Very frustrating.

Hi Kevin

When you just get the
<b>Fatal error: eZ Publish did not finish its request
The execution of eZ Publish was abruptly ended, the debug output is present below.</b> output you can usually find the issue in the webserver error log.

Cheers
Bruce

So what is the definitive solution for people with no access to their php.ini on shared hosting?

I am having a time trying to make this work on my IIS localhost here at home.

Running Windows NT SERVER 5.1 build 2600, MySQL Server 5.0, and PHP 5.2.6

I edited the php.ini for the TIMEZONE:

[Date]
; Defines the default timezone used by the date functions
date.timezone = America/Los_Angeles

Restarted the server, but am still getting this error. The documentation refers to Apache, not to IIS

Strict Standards: strtotime() [function.strtotime]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. Please use the date.timezone setting, the TZ environment variable or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/Los_Angeles' for '-7.0/DST' instead in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\EZPublish\lib\ezutils\classes\ezdebug.php on line 879

Is there an answer for those of us using IIS locally for development before a launch to a live IIS server.

I have been reviewing several CMS apps and I wold really like to take this for a run. I am going to be using it for a christian non-profit website at www.GraceResources.org

To Andy and Robert:
If you look earlier in this thread, you'll find a alternative way to set it using eZ Publish settings:

Geez, I must have overlooked that post. Thanks, Andre. That worked for my setup.

Looking forward to this application. I think it is going to work very well for our needs.

I found same problem, and solved with information described above.

I can mention that below:
1. fill time zone in php.ini with my local time zone setting.
2. enable mod_rewrite ini apache httpd.conf

But, then, i found new problem here. i've got new error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined method domdocument::loadXML() in E:\xampp\htdocs\ezpublish-4.0.0\kernel\setup\steps\ezstep_site_types.php on line 613
Fatal error: eZ Publish did not finish its request
The execution of eZ Publish was abruptly ended, the debug output is present below.

And, below is message in error log file:

[Sat Aug 02 13:31:51 2008] [warn] pid file E:/xampp/apache/logs/httpd.pid overwritten -- Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run?
[Sat Aug 02 13:31:55 2008] [notice] Apache/2.2.9 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.9 OpenSSL/0.9.8h mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.2.6 configured -- resuming normal operations

[Sat Aug 02 13:31:57 2008] [notice] Child 4292: Starting thread to listen on port 443.

What should I do now? Anyone can help? Thanks.

Please keep the threadon topic, your problem is easy to solve by searching for it in the forum or on the net.
http://ez.no/developer/forum/install_configuration/ez_publish_4_0_installation_failure_on_windows

Basically you should never use the domxml extension with php5, php5 has it's own more standards conformance xml extension enabled by default.
