Safe Mode (again?)

Is "Safe Mode OFF" absolutely necessary to install Ez?
If not, what will/may (not) work?
(I'd appreciate if the respondee would make a notice of what's "will" and what's "may" (and not) work if there are several items here)

I've not been able to find these answers in the forum (yet?).

I'm in a process to establish a CMS for my new domain, and Ez seems to have what I'm looking for. But I've bought the webhotel (a bit premature), before I was aware of that Ez requires safe mode OFF. So if I manages to install the CMS, what might not work since safe mode is ON in the webhotel?

A quick reply would be appreciated!

Here are just a small few of the available threads covering the issues with safe mode and open basedir.

No. The setup module should prevent you from setting up eZ Publish normally if safe mode is enabled. eZ Publish requires full access to your web server environment.

I for one will be glad when safe mode is removed from php with php6,
