hello everybody, this is my first post on this forum. I`ve designed a few sites for ez before, but I`ve never really played with the technical side of it hands-on before.

But now I`ve set up a demo-account of ez, and the plan is to use my easter to get further knowledge of the software.

I do however have a problem... at first I thought this was a css problem relating to the fact that I was browsing the site using ie7.. but it looked the same in firefox. So then I checked the ez demo site for the same problems - and it looked fine. (keep in mind this installation is still pretty much out of the box).

my demo: http://eoreka.com/index.php?/eng/news_and_events

ez demo: http://now.ezpublish.no/eng/news_and_events

it should be the exact same page, but on my installation there is a problem with the images - and links. (the searchengine doesnt work either.. but I`ve been told thats because my host is running php as cgi instead of apache module.... and I guess I`ve found how to fix that).

So have anybody here encountered these problems on a fresh installation, should I just do the installation over again - or just switch host? (I`m using a real cheap one here - because I`m just playing with the system - siteground).

Any help will be appreciated!

Hi Kristian

Most likely eZ does not have the permission to write into your var directory. If that is the case, eZ cannot upload new images or create versions of any existing pictures. To test this just change the permissions to 777 for every folder in the path var/eng/storage/images. Then try again.

The problems with the links are caused by the missing pictures - due to a small bug in the template which is responsible for displaying the image (design/standard/content/datatype/ezimage.tpl) the link around the picture is always opened, but only closed if the picture exists. And since your pictures do not exist, the closing </a> tag is missing which makes a link out of the all the following text.

Switching the host should not be necessary for this, although I would recommend it if you intend to use eZ on a live website. Getting the search working can be quite annoying if PHP runs aas CGI and it is a bit slower then using PHP as a module.

Thanks for your reply Claudia, after a little ping-pong game of responses in sitegrounds support-ticket system, they finaly had to admit that they actually do not support the latest ez publish. They could however offer me a vps for... a lot more money.

"If something seems too good to be true, it probably is."

Have anybody got tips for a cheap hosting company that actually supports ez? I do realize that ez requires alot of system resources.. but paying over 40 euros pr month for hosting is.. so 90s. ;)

It should also be noted that you installed the plain_site package, and that one is using the old 'base' design.
To get the new 'Now' / 'ezwebin' design, you'll have to install the new "Website interface site package"

Thats right andrè.. but the site as it is now, is like the 7th reinstall since I posted this.. and evidently the plain-site is all their system can take. the website interface makes doesnt seem to work. so I just got a refund from them now.. so does anybody got a tip for cheap but reliable hosting for ez? I`m paying the bills for two dedicated servers (one in the states and one in bergen, norway) but they are mostly filled with our own projects. And even though I`m running an ez site on one of them - I dont want any clients in there, mostly because I dont want that responsibility.

So any suggestions for a cheap hosting partner will be appreciated...
