online editor problem with IE win

hi,

i normally use firefox win for editing ezpublish sites. however, i've just used IE and could not get the online editor (4.1.4) to work. this might be due to just updating to IE7 (7.0.5730.11) or it might be a more long running problem.

when i loaded the editor the first time, the debug toolbar showed an error 'Automation server can't create object'. i changed the security settings (everything enabled), deleted temporary internet files + now no longer get the error, but all i get is this:

http://www.the-waiting-room.co.uk/ezdhtml.jpg

that screengrab is from http://now.ezpublish.no , so it's not just my ez setup.

any ideas?

this is quite annoying cos i'm in the process of extending the editor to include text alignment buttons. the mozilla version works perfectly but this is stopping me doing the IE version.

thanks now

Hi Stevo

What exactly did you expect to get in place of what the screenshot shows? Does the red cross image replaces the object tag icon? If that's the problem, then it's probably because of this issue: http://issues.ez.no/9663

I recommend you to always upgrade OE to the latest version.

Kristof - the red cross represents the whole iframe which should be there with the content in. there's no editable area at all. no javascript errors either, very odd.

Kirill - just installed oe4.2 + it's exactly the same deal.

i'll try to find another machine to have a test on

in the generated source from IE, the textareas are removed but none of the elements from startEditor() in ezeditor.js are present.

i'm convinced it's some kind of security problem but i've no idea what's going on.

has no one else experienced this?

Hi Stevo,

We've seen this too.

Can you raise a bug for this?

Paul

It sounds like an IE's ActiveX Controls configuration problem :

!!! Be aware not to click on "Accept changes" when seeing that red cross in IE, because it will save your content as a new cleared version, and then you will see your content as completely empty. If you do so, then you will have to backup your previous content from the version system of ez publish.

In Windows XP SP2 / IE7 / eZ Publish 4.0, I reproduced it :
When you see a red cross (the classical IE symbol for a missing image) in the Online Editor, you should also see a little top-located,-slide-down alert window (well, just as firefox-alerts window that appears when installing a new extension) asking you to activate an ActiveX Control.

Accept to activate that ActiveX and the red cross disappear, and the Online Editor will then show you your content, ready to be modified.

If this alert window doesn't appear, you will have to configure manually all the different ActiveX authorizations in IE : Tools > Option > Security > Security level Configuration ... until it finally works.

Greetings,

I'm seeing the same issue.

Browser: IE7
OS: Windows XP
Editor Version: Online editor 4.3.1
Latest version of EZPublish 4.0.3

JS is enabled but I am unsure what to do with ActiveX.

If I disable the editor, all the existing code is wiped out and lost.

I want my office to use this tool, but not if the editor tool is not working.

Thanks.
