New 4.2 cluster cache file handle in 4.1 sites?

We'd greatly like to try the new NFS-based cluster cache file handle of the 4.2 version in a number of sites already in production with 4.0 and 4.1 Ezpublish version. Is there a way to do it without migrating the whole sites to 4.2 ? Thanks for any help.
