Hi,

Anyone seen an intermittent problem with their installs where, in the logs, you get the following:

ERROR 2006 (HY000): MySQL server has gone away No connection. Trying to reconnect...
Connection id: 1
Current database: *** NONE ***

or

Query error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

This is on MySQL 4.1.20

As noted, it is intermittent and when it happens you either get a small X in the AdminGUI when you try to access one of the siteaccess or on the websites themselves you get a Kernel 1, Kernel 4, or Kernel 50 error (this one tends to happen on the AdminGUI).

It seems to indicate a Database connectivitiy issue but I cnanot see why it would suddenly happen after X months of use.

Anyone seen/heard of know of a solution?

Thanks

the mysql server is down or the path to the socket is wrong.

I would call your host....

yep, they reckon it is a corrupt database/btree which they can fix with backup/restore. I will keep you posted on my results!

OK,

The resolution was to drop the database, recreate and the restore. Whatever happened with the database was pretty bad and we think it was down to adding multiple locations (by clicking multiple locations at one time). It ruined a page or index in teh DB which meant it would bomb out all the time.

Anyway, drop, recreate and restore sorted it.
