Can anyone help this is really important.

I am using EZp3.1 and i have tried it on two different hosting accounts one brand new with nothing else installed and a fresh database.

Can someone please give me an idea of at least where to look for the problem??

Could you check if the database contains any tables, if possible anyone that starts with 'ez'.
Also on which step did you get this error?

I have tried the installation on two hosting accounts I have with seperate companys. The first contained an old version of EZ, and also shared the database with another programe i am running (oscommerce). I cleaned the database of everything from the old EZ tables and made sure nothing was there. I got the error.

I then tried it on a brand new hosting account that was set up on a different server to the one above. I uploaded the script and only the script, I gave it its own brand new database and i get exactly the same error. There is nothing else installed in the database or on the hosting.

I get the error at the database stage, a test connection to the database is made and is successfull, it then says "click continue to initialize the database" with a tick box for demo data. I click continue and get the above error. I checked the database and they are still empty, so it is connecting to the DB ok in both cases.

If you would like to see the set up you can email me and i will let you have the database settings and you can see what i mean.
The new fresh clean hosting and database can be found at

If you want the database details email me at

Could you enable debug output by editing settings/site.ini and setting SQLOutput=enabled in DatabaseSettings and DebugOutput=enabled in DebugSettings?

Then go trough the database initialization again and see if you get some SQL errors or other errors in the debug output.

Thanks for that, I switched on the debug and it did find a few small errors during the first stages of install with the VAR file, so I fixed these.

However during the language options screen I got some more errors and then during the collecting information section on the Summary page i get the same errors which are below.
Warning: PHP Sep 08 2003 14:23:27
Undefined index: language_type in /home/.sites/133/site134/web/lifeboat/kernel/setup/parts/init/ezstep_summary.php on line 55

Input codepage for koi8-r is not valid
Error: eZTextCodec Sep 08 2003 14:23:27
Cannot create textcodec from characterset koi8-r to characterset iso-8859-1

I carried onto the database section and again I get the initialization error.

any ideas?

The problem is probably the missing koi8-r codepage, I believie it was missing from one of the earlier releases.
Copy it from
http://zev.ez.no/svn/nextgen/stable/3.2/share/codepages/koi8-r
to your share/codepages/ directory and try the setup again.

The page might still be missing then as I used a very recent download, you may want to check it out.

I cannot access that file it gives me a 403 forbidden page :(

Ah, I forgot that the svn wasn't open to public yet.

You can find the same file in one of 3.2 beta2 files here:

This is really beggining to annoy me, and I really want to try EZ but if a simple thing like the installer isnt working properly then its going to put a lot of people off.

During the set up I got the following two errors on the last two pages during the language setup option/Collecting information section.

Error: eZTextCodec Sep 09 2003 15:08:43
Cannot create textcodec from characterset koi8-r to characterset iso-8859-1

Warning: PHP Sep 09 2003 15:10:24
Undefined index: language_type in /home/.sites/133/site134/web/lifeboat/kernel/setup/parts/init/ezstep_summary.php on line 55
Error: eZTextCodec Sep 09 2003 15:10:24
Cannot create textcodec from characterset koi8-r to characterset iso-8859-1

But when I carry on to the database section, it carries out a test connection OK, but still I get the initialization error.

Can someone please help me out with this!

May be you should try to set the default language to en-english first and specify others later. For your final site, it does not matter what you specify afterwards (if there are no other language related bugs of course).

I have selected the English (uk) default option and also the single language choice.
Language settings
Language type Monolingual
Languages English (United Kingdom)
However Im not sure if it is this that is causing the database error.
