Which shell are you using? csh? I can reproduce the error you got by using csh as my shell.
csh%./install.sh
./install.sh: 30: Syntax error: "(" unexpected However the freebsd installer requires bash (/usr/local/bin/bash) or else it won't work. If you don't have the bash shell installed you can find it in the ports collection.
