[alright, don't quite know if this is the right place to put this query, but don't quite know where to go elsewhere...]

Hi,

I'm a complete novice when it comes to web development - which is why I hired a professional to develop the next website for the company that I work for...
Whether it's necessary or not (and am not quite sure it is, but there we go...), this will include the ez publish CMS.

Great - except now I'm struggling to find adequate hosting for the website. I'm told that, at the very least, we'll need a VPS for the website to adequately function - is this so? (definitely, as my web developer concedes, a dedicated server is overkill)
To begin with, I don't really expect there will be a _huge_ amount of traffic to the site, and in terms of multimedia content, yes there will be some, but not tremendous amounts.

I'm quite tempted to get something 'cheap and cheerful' like this: http://www.web-mania.com/cgi-bin/hostshop1.cgi

but am told that there's way too big a risk in terms of functionality if I do that (I'm recommended something like http://www.eurovps.com/vps/vps.html instead).

So anyway, now we're committed to this all-singing, all-dancing CMS website, do we also have to go and spend a shed-load of money on adequate hosting?
Or not?

Many thanks,
Marcus Jakt

Hi

Here's a good selection of possible hosting providers: http://ez.no/partner/worldwide_ez_publish_partners/(profile)/hosting

You can filter the list on the country of your choice as well.

Hi Marcus,

One thing we tend to do is pick an eZ Hosting partner. There are several reasons

1. They will not force an upgrade of PHP on you. (Been there, never again)
2. They know that eZ is going to each CPU, RAM and Disk IO
3. They will be able to host eZ Network (eZ NOW and eZ Premium)
4. You have a chance of getting the OpenOffice stuff you need to get OpenOffice Import and Export, Export to PDF/Word working.
5. The ones I know are really nice folks...
6. If they mess you around word gets out in the community and folks stop using them.

I hope this helps and good luck...

Tony

Hi,

If you want to host on a shoestring, we've heard various reports in this forum about shared hosting that did the trick.

Not sure about the name anymore, dig the forums you'll find more info.
