hi,
i have send an email to ez.no for this problem, here is the copy of the mail :

hi,
i have downloaded ezpublish (the bundled version) and i have tryed to
install it under windows, but at the end of the installation at the
latest screen of the wizard when i click the "next" button,
internet explorer display an error page "impossible de trouver
le serveur" and if i refresh the page or if i type the url of
the default site i have choosen at the install
( http://localhost/index.php/gallery) the wizard return to the
begining of the procedure.
it's impossible to me to install ezpublish. I have tryed again with
"easyphp" (and the sources of ezpublish unzipped in the
"www" folder of easyphp) and modified the ressources limits
of php but the problem is the same.
i don't know what to do, ezpublish is the best cms i've seen and want
it for my sites !
Excuse me but my english is not very well.
I wish you help me.
Thanks.
karim

and the answer of ez.no here :

Hi,

This problem sounds like it is related to some sort of faulty setup in
the installation wizard. However, such a problem should show up in all
installations using windows and we have had no other reports similar to
yours. Since you also have the same problem with a manual install I
guess you have some sort of setup which triggers this problem. Could
you try to gather as much information about your windows version
(firewall, antivirus, windows version, cpu, amount of ram etc.) and
post this mail in the forums? Maybe some of our users have resolved a
similar problem. If you get no replies, the next step is to report a
bug.

Cheers,
Frederik

i don't know what to do! if someone could help me.
i have seen today that i have downloaded the manual version (sources) for linux (and not for windows ;) ) and unzipped it in the "www" folder of easyphp for a manual installation. it don't work (see the mail). But the bundled version for windows don't work to !! the same problem.

my configuration is:
a laptop pentium III with 192 mo of ram, 10 GO hard drive, windows 98 SE, easyphp(apache server+php+mysql),no antivirus but a soft for eradicate spywares (spybot search en destroy).
thanks for your help.

Hi,

Your hardware configuration isn`t enought for eZ publish development. I suggest you upgrade to 256 MB RAM as mininum. Also if possible change OS to Win2k or WinXP.

With 256 MB ram you can run eZ publish LiveCD version as well.

Sorry but I have no knowledge of French, perhaps you could send the entire error message ( and try to translate it into English)?

I have had problems with the configuration wizard (on Linux) if I try to use a primary language other than British English. You might try completing the configuration with English as the primary language ( obviously selecting French as an additional language ) and seeing if that improves the situation.

hi,
thanks a lot for your help, but i can't install ezpublish,i have tryed today, but the problem is here.
Perhaps i must upgrade my config (add memory moduls for example)...
when i write that the wizard display tha error page "impossible de trouver le serveur" this means in english :"impossible to find the server".
I think i'll try another cms like Typo3.
If anyone can tell me if the version 2 of ezpublish
need less ressources than the 3.5 version?

Greetings,

You are very correct, eZ publish 2 does require (a lot) less resources than eZ publish 3!

In fact I have yet to have a situation (recently) in which I could not use eZ publish 2 most shared hosting providers ( who only provide a php memory limit of 8 - 12m ) ( <i>v3 requires at least 32 -> 64m</i> ).

You can find more information, forums, contributions and documentation available for eZ publish 2 at our eZ publish Community:

I think i've finally installed ez publish 3.5-2 with success!!
Here is the method :
first install an old 3 version (for example the 3.2-1 version with the installer for linux or windows) , and if the installation is a success, then download the sources of the 3.5-2 version and make an update of the 3.2-1 version to the 3.5-2.
To do this take a look at the instructions in page 39 of the "installation manual" .
This method work very well, and if i type the url
http://localhost/index.php/gallery_admin (i've installed the gallery site at the setup wizard)
i can see the administrator page.
i'am going to sleep, and i'll test the system tomorow !

Wow, way to go benhamar!

I think your the most publicly tenacious new user I've ever heard here in the forums. You solved your own installation breakdown!

I think it's so cool, you were able to avoid the initial (installation) requirements (memory) just enough, by installing an older version of the eZ publish 3.2 installer first, then upgrading to the latest stable version of eZ publish via source.

I looked albeit briefly, at the eZ publish installation documentation:
<i>http://www.ez.no/ez_publish/documentation/installation</i>

I did not find any documentation describing this procedure. I could have overlooked it, in any case, we should have some documentation describing this option.

I also get the impression that this suggestion may have from from the manual provided with the eZ publish boxed or livecd edition?

Happy Hacking,

hi,
because i'm unable to access the admin page with the default password and login (admin and publish)i've decided to uninstall ezpublish .
what i'am doing today:

i've downloaded the 3.4-6 release and installed it in easyphp but it doesn't works (same problem that above with the last setup screen),so
i've downloaded the 3.3-7 release and installed it manually in the "www" folder in easyphp. It works very well with the default site (gallery). Great!! I've decided to keep this release.
But later i'll try to make an update of the 3.3-7 release to the 3.4-6 release . If it works i'll update the 3.4-release to the 3.5-2 release ;)
The only problem with eZpublish : it take a lot of ressources and the speed is not very well in a pentium III with 192 mo of ram.

You might also consider switching to a GNU/Linux Server OS.

The requirements to install eZ publish might be more lenient than a resource hog like windows ;)

There is a big difference between the resources windows uses to power that gui + eZ publish + apache + mysql + php vs the power required for a command line / text only GNU/Linux server.

eZ publish <b>is faster</b> on a GNU/Linux System. Specifically server configurations without GUI window managers running.

The eZ publish requirements state this specifically: http://www.ez.no/ez_publish/info/requirements_for_ez_publish

<i>We recommend using Linux in a production environment.</i>

Congratulations on liberating your computer from the horrors of non-free software!

Be careful now not to accept GNU/Linux <i>compatible non-free / proprietary</i> software into your newly liberated computer!

You can very quickly slide backwards down a slippery slope away from your freedom when you begin to accept non-free software masquerading as gratis (zero cost) software which is not free software onto your GNU/Linux computer.

Your now living in freedom, Enjoy!

hi,
i' don't undurstand why linux is so difficult.
I've tryed to install a bundled ezpublish in my slackware but at the end of the wizard, when i open my navigator (netscape or Konqueror in the kde desktop) with the url http://localhost:8085 then i receive an error page, i can't acced the setup page of the wizard.
i've not configured the network in my linux, because my computer is not to make a server.
its more easy with windows, so i think i'll reinstall my windows version, i'aL7G7Bp

Hi!
I can see from above that you are lacking some minimum hardware configuration.

Please try to get minimum required Hardware/software configuration and go through proper documentation or use installer, also give error's so we could know what exact the problem is.
Thanks
