I started working for a new boss yesterday. They have a company website (www.dts.nl) that uses Ezpublish. The providers switched the shared hosting to PHP5 yesterday. So now the site is down... I don't know with version of Expublish is installed. (How do I find out?) I don's know how to upgrade and there are also some costum modules... Can you advise me what to do? Can you tell me if it is possible to edit (some) pages so it will work on PHP5? Wat would be the problem if I started trying this? (global variables? syntax? reserverd variables?) Thanks!

You can just hack some code to make it work, that would take you at least a couple of months if your a highly skilled php programmer.
Version: look in doc/changelog/ and find the newest (highest number folder and highest number changelog)
upgrade: Unless you are using version 3.10.x you will need to do upgrades in php 4 (More specific: 3.0 -> 3.6 in php 4.3.x and 3.7 -> 3.10 in php 4.4.x).

Hi Jip, I would switch provider to an eZ Publish hosting provider. They will not do this kind of thing to you. The eZ Publish hosters tend to cost a little more, but you just lost a stack of cash solving this problem so probably worth it for the future. Tony

@Yan: His site doesn't work, so that won't help until he manages to move the site to another hoster with php 4. @Jip:
Yes this is possible. The whole site + mysql dump.
When you insert it on new server / localhost, you'll need to make sure you use the correct settings for database (user / name / password / server / port). Normally you'll find them in
settings/override/site.ini.append.php
or settings/siteaccess/<your_siteaccess>/site.ini.append.php Where <your_siteaccess> is the name of your siteaccesses, both front end and admin aka backend( normally called something like *_site_admin).

Hi! I managed tot get some of the site back up. In the mean time I've ordered another hosting-account with a provider that supports PHP4. We'll find out if that solves all of our problems. Thanks so far!

We'll find out if that solves all of our problems.
It probably will, but upgrade seems inevitable, or at least worth planning ahead...

Hi! I moved the site to a different server (different provider) and now it seems to be working OK. I will look into the possibilities of upgrading soon...
I still have a problem, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. The items on th homepage have different categories. (products, news, etc.) When I use the main menu to go to 'products' a product-template is shown. As it should. But when a product is shown on the frontpage and I click on it, the item opens OK, but not in the right template.
There is a diiference in the URL:
Link to article (right one):
http://www.dts.nl/index.php/article/articleview/360/1/143 (in the topmenu 'training' --> 'left menu 'c# trainingen' --> Select 'Programming with C#'
When I click on this item 'Programming with C#' on the homepage it goes to: http://www.dts.nl/index.php/article/articleview/360/1/15 I notice that the last number in the URL is different and probably causes the wrong template to show. All items on the formtpage (news, products, etc.) seem to get this '15' in stead of the right category (or section or whatever) number. Can someone help me out with this? Thanks!

The site seems to be running OK now at our new provider. All problems seem to be solved. The homepage problems were caused by commenting out the include of a latetst news module. After activating this module again the URL's were OK. Now that the problems are solved we have to think about how to prevent this from happening again. It's probably a matter of time before our new provider is going to switch to PHP5... Thank for alle the support!

There was a community driven site for eZ Publish 2.2 earlier, they had a unofficial php 5 port.
Might be the same as you find in the ubuntu reposotories:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/ezpublish/2.2.8-2.1ubuntu1 http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/web/ezpublish-src Worth a shoot if you need to get it to work on php5.
