Changing the dropdown menu

Yes, we know its horrible but we had to use it for the initial launch.

We now want to replace it. Probably with jscore, and jquery or yui. Whatever is suitable and the best choice.

As we are not designers we need your advice on which menus work best for our content, and which type of dropdowns offer this.

I don't think the implementation of the menus are that bad, it's just the colours that are hideous :) I think with just a few minutes tweaking the CSS and getting someone who knows design to come up with better colours the menu will look much, much more pleasant.

PS: The path sticks out like a sore thumb, the orange colour is not pretty, the text is hard to read and it's not aligned properly in the middle.

Cheers,

I made a quick tweak to my local setup and posted a picture on the issue for this: http://issues.ez.no/IssueView.php?Id=15772&activeItem=3.

The top menu needs work, but how do my changes do with clarity?

Although the border helps I don't think that orange is the right colour to use. It's too powerful and sticks out way too much. It should only be used as supplementary colour.

I've made a revision to the colours and background image. Can you look at the latest attachment in the mentioned issue?

Is it really necessary with the drop down in the top-menu? Just tried locally without the drop down and think personally it was much better without it. I think it's more important to have a bold / coloured text on the selected top-menu item.

Hi Paul,

if you like jquery, you can take for example this: http://www.sohtanaka.com/web-design/mega-drop-downs-w-css-jquery/

or yui3:

http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/3/examples/node-menunav/node-menunav-2.html

and I think a good idea is: Follow the eZ Systems corporate design for the community, too,

greetings, ekke

I'm not extremely fond of the new menu color, but I guess it must be my color-blindness...

Slightly more relevant:

  • menu panels appear behind the stars used to rate and even behind the text of main article in homepage
  • no horizontal padding around the text of the 1st level menu items when they are highlighted
