Whats the point of existence of REMOTE_ID out of the content obejct table?

I wonder if I could use this for a soap content import tool. Guess not, because somehow ezcontentobject_tree should have that too. Or only ezcontentobject_tree.

The remote id is used for import. When we import a bunch of articles etc to eZ publish we normally store the old ID in that field. This means that we can run an import several times without duplicating objects.

This can be used for a SOAP import, yes.
