NULL for certain datatype values

Shouldn't it be possible to store NULL values for certain datatypes? For example, integer or float? It could be decided at the class attribute configuration level, just like in MySQL we would have NULL/NOT NULL option. In that way, the datatype's backward compatibility mode could be achieved (set to NOT NULL - currently the only option).

I believe this would solve many problems, since NULL is a completely different type information/value that 0!

What do you think?

It's curious that this request has drawn so little attention since then...
