Heiner Wurbs	Wednesday 22 December 2004 8:31:11 am Hi, I have trouble with my backup on a linux suse server and on windows. the tar cf mysite.tar var/mysite consists of some 0 KB sized files, which are definite more than 0 KB. I think the reason is, that ez creates too large file sizes, witch exceed with a path length of 255 characters the tar capabilites. At the moment my backup is worthless, does anybody knows something? regards, heiner

Heiner Wurbs	Wednesday 22 December 2004 9:09:27 am thanks for your answer! no, I didn't from /, I made it from ezroot. I got it now, the problem was not linux tar, it was the windows system. I copied the var directory to a new created directory called "t" and tared the t-directory. This t.tar was fine, when I opened it on the windows system on c:\t.tar. But in any subfolder it didn't work anymore. This is good news and let my christmas backup succeed!:)! By the way, I used webalizer for statistics, and for this program most of the nice urls created by ez are too long, but webalizer isn't the first choice, so it doesn't matter. Never had problems with that. I think you also tar with the entire path from /, do you?

If so

cd to ezpublish root dir and do a tar cf - . > ../mybackup.tar

That should work with the standard file names in ez publish

I got it now, the problem was not linux tar, it was the windows system.
