Datatype "required" problems

In my user class I want to "Require" certain datatypes among the ones I made required are Text Line, User Account, Enhanced Selection, Country, Selection and Checkbox. Of these only the Text Line and and User Account are actually enforcing data input. I have altered the multiple selection template of Enhanced Selection to present tick boxes and not the standard but this doesn't appear to alter anything. Does anyone else experience this, and can anyone give suggestions as to what might cause this. There is an issue with checkbox, this is already reported and will be fixed. Selection shows a combobox if I'm not mistaken and it should not be possible _not_ to select anything in it by design.
