CSS multi-lingual image form buttons with rollovers

Im having a few problems coming up with a suitable way to handle rollovers with multilingual buttons using images.

Multi lingual buttons need to change with the text size. This precludes use of most css techniques to beautify form buttons. Normal buttons/links would equally be affected.

Although the default rectangular look is the simplest solution but it is hard to style with images. The closest i've seen is on this page:

but expanding the image wouldn't work as text expands... you could chop the image up, left and right, with the centre expanding but from my experience this affects rollovers - the individual elements might rollover but getting all three to at the same time isnt possible, i believe.

anyone worked with this before?
