Can you create a user content object without a user object?

I've done this, and they appear under a user group. They have no user account and no password. When I want them to be "enabled," I edit them and add a username and password, and they can log in normally. This seems to be working, but is there something I'm not considering with it?

I assume that the user attribute is marked as not required? Anything in particular you are concerned about?
