Automatic redirect not working after name changes

I'm thinking the answer to this problem is obvious, but it has been a long day. Here is the situation:

I have a site on which many content objects have been renamed, and so eZ has generated URL aliases automatically. When I click on an old link I get the following message:

Object moved

The object is no longer available at this URL.

You should automatically be redirected to the new location. If not click "/section/my_new_url".

The link works, but the redirect is not automatic. Is this related to the eZ Publish configuration? Apache? Note that the site is using a static cache. Not sure if that matters. Version is 4.0.1.

Also note that the automatic redirect works on the admin siteaccess but not the user/published siteaccess.

Thanks,
Graham

Bumping this one. Cleaned up the vhost to take out anything uncommon, restarted Apache, and still the problem persists. Any NEW alias on the published site works fine. It is just the old/existing ones that stop and do not redirect.

Any ideas?
