Thanks for the fixes to the size of the 'code' operator!

I wonder if the next step is to automatically change a line of text to use the code tag if it exceeds a certain length, eg 80 chars. I see a lot of cut & paste on the forums where this occurs and it becomes difficult to read the messages for the whole thread.

I should clarify that i mean when any one 'word' exceeds a defined length.

Thank you for your suggestion Paul.

I`m interesting in other opinions community members. If you have any ideas on how we can improve ez.no forum please write in this topic.

What do you think about?
- syntax coloring for PHP, TPL, SQL and others
- linie numbers for code listings
- using BB code
- add "Quote" option
- Email topic
- printer friendly version of every topic

I want to get a better overview of the latest posts on the following URLs:
http://ez.no/community/forum
http://ez.no/community

Any suggestions on how it should be?

Personally I mostly use the community frontpage to see what's new. If it's been a while since I visited I use the forum mainpage or the new postings function available from the top of the screen.

If some improvements could be configurable via your profile that would be nice. Full features for some, lean for others. But that might hit your cache size a little.

One fix i really would like to see is... When topics go onto other pages the links given in the 'latest' area on the community page, and on the forums 'latest reply' do not use an (offset) in the url. Therefore the links are almost meaningless.

For example:

http://ez.no/community/forum/developer/xmlarea_extension_development#msg69997

should be:

http://ez.no/community/forum/developer/xmlarea_extension_development/(offset)/60#msg69997

I agree with Bard, I use the home page to see whats changed and 4 items is not enough.

It would be nice to see the latest 10ish forum entries, with the name, date and number of replies, views etc.

Following on from bård if we could configure the number of items in some places such as latest forum posts that would be great. Switching off things like the blog/doc/contribution lists by choice might be nice since they are not high traffic lists. Or they could appear if something has been updated in the last (1/5/10 days...).

How about supplying RSS streams for each of the forums and a combined one as it has been requested numerous times by many people including myself? RSS is THE solution for quick overview of forums, IMHO.

I'd love the quote feature. I don't personally print webpages very often, but printer friendly display might be handy for some.

Oh, BTW, the other RSS streams seem broken ever since the upgrade on ez.no.

I'd like more than 10 entries on the community page as well.
It would also be cool with a personal page where all threads that I have posted in are listed (makes it easier to see if there are any replies on messages I have sent)

Yes please.
I would also like be able to see the last message when i'm replying. I keep forgetting what i'm replying to. :)

Also nice.. when a topic has multiple pages, the link from the forum front-page takes you to the correct page.

It's cool to see how many posts each member has, but it looks kinda malplaced below the 'member since'-thingy. Perhaps it would look better placing it above this?

A quotation function also sounds like great idea. (I've been trying to make this for my own eZ site without any luck, so it would be interesting seeing how you guys do it).

I also think you should fix the forum front page (http://www.ez.no/community/forum), to not repeat forum topics in the lists beneath each topic. It would be nice seeing more than one topic even when one of them has had the 5 most recent entries.

Eivind,

Have a read of this thread:

http://lists.ez.no/pipermail/sdk-public/2005-February/000986.html

You can use custom tags or simpletags to do all sorts of nice transforms.

Thanks Paul. I guess I was unpresice in my last post.. I've made a new post about it (here: http://www.ez.no/community/forum/general/quoting_in_forums) to avoid going off topic here.

The forum front page looks better now, but it's kinda confusing.. How about adding a paranthesis with the number of replies to each thread to make it easier to see if there has been any activity in since last visit?

Alternatively set it up like the main page of a forum (e.g. http://www.ez.no/community/forum/setup_design), but with a limit of 5 for each forum.

How about http://ez.no/content/new to see if there's anything new since your last visit? Do you honestly keep track of the number of posts in a thread to figure out if you've read the latest ones?

BTW: I do like the new look much better. However, I'm wondering if there should be a "real" border around each post?

Also I feel displaying the subject of a post would be helpful if you're allowed to set one...

I think the the content/new-page looks kinda messy. And yeah, at the forums I use that displays the number of replies, I do remember them.

Anyways, point taken. But I still think that using a different layout for the forum front page would improve the usability of it. Preferably the same layout as a forum, but with a limit of the 5 latest topics.

Can we have the OE on all front end entry boxes. The OE will make expressing yourself in message a lot eaiser. You will also be able to ditch the "Tags you can use in forum messages" message.

Looking nice, Lukasz!

I guess the forums should be a topic discussed on Thursdays hackfest.
