Working the Tutorial - Permission Problem on Custom Template Creation

Hello,

I just installed 3.3 after problems with 3.2 and all was working well. I've been working through the tutorial without any problems until I hit creating a custom template - the full_view_welcome.tpl template to display the welcome screen.

Here's the problem. When I click templates in the setup menu and then on node/view/full.tpl, I have two options. I can either use "tcsm" or "tcsm_admin". I attempted to create the new template as explained in the tutorial under "tcsm". When I did this, though, I got an error message saying "permission denied". I was able to, though, create this template when going under "tcsm_admin". I'm even able to view this template under the "tcsm_admin" Template View screen.

However, even though under the "tcsm_admin" I was able to create the template, I noticed it stored the template in a different place than is specified in the tutorial. For this reason, I suspect, I am not getting the page to display properly - since the page isn't referencing the template.

As such, I am sort of "stumped" on this section of the tutorial. I can't seem to create the custom template that is needed to display the content of the welcome page properly. I even tried manually creating the .tpl file and copying it into the right directory. But, this didn't work, since I guess because I wasn't able to definie it in the template list properly.

Anyone have any ideas on what is going on or what is wrong. I'm beginning to finally understand EZ a bit - so having this unexplained permission problem is very frustrating!

You can see the page that has been created following the tutorial at : http://www.thegreatdepression.info/ezpublish3.3/index.php/gdp

(also note that I changed all references of "tcsm" to "gdp" and all references to "tcsm_admin" to "gdp_admin" on my site, as the gdp reflects my site name. I just used tcsm in this message since it would make more sense).

Thank you for any help.

Jim

Hello, you can read about permissions here:

http://ez.no/developer/ez_publish_3/forum/setup_design/could_not_create_template_permission_denied

The answer from Balazs solved my problem with creating templates.

But, sometimes I have problem to view, at the usersite, the templates I have created. Then I have to place them (at admin site) in a correct priority. I found the priority only by testing....Spookie...

Thanks for the link to that post Finn David.

After contacting my host, just a simple matter of them doing a 666 Chmod to the settings/siteaccess and settings/override directories. Also tried a 666 chmod command to the design/tscm/override/templates directory (as was mentioned in the last post of that link), but that really hosed things up. After my host undid that, everything worked like a charm!

Thanks so much for your help.
