Sorry but step by step to such a general question is gonna take ages.. However, in your template displaying the content insert this:
Version {$node.object.current_version}
For a start insert it into design/your_desing/templates/page_topbox.tpl and see what happens (might have to clear cache at admin/setup)
cheers Tore
Ouff, sorry, saw that I answered another question now:(.. You need to do some iteration on the $node.object. variables.. Small tip could be to chech out the template which is invoked when admin clicks manage in the default edit template.

You could also look at the template code the admin site uses to show versions. Its located at:
design/standard/templates/content/view/versionview.tpl
If you ever manage version of an object in the admin this template is used to show those versions.

I look at the admin interface and based on this I made my own template to view content version history. But I have another problem - permissions to view this history. Rights to versionread function in content module for anonymous user not working :(
So my question is: what permissions I must set to permit not logged user viewing version history ?
