Removing 'index.php'

I have tried everything found in the forum about removing the 'index.php' but they weren't successful.

I'm already in a virtual environment; there are several sites being hosted in the same 'VPS' virtual private server using the same ip address.

If there is anyone else with a similar server setup I would appreciate there solution or any solution.!!!
