Well, I have Ezpublish 3.8.5 installed.

I have got the basics down I believe. I have a nice clean layout going with some pics and PDF links working properly. I have a logo in the upper left corner.

The next steps I can't figure out.

Are there ways to include standard HTML content inside an ezpublish page?

I would like to add some rotating banner code and would like to imbed a sound file that automatically plays when the page is loaded.

I need to add a banner at the top of the pages too. There's a big emtpy space not being used with a tiny logo on the left, I need to add some content up there.

Also while I'm here, is there a way to incorporate a forum that shares the login with ezpublish and/or to imbed the forum inside an ezpublish page so the links/buttons are always available?

TIA.

Hi Robin,

First of all, have you taken a look at this : http://ez.no/products/ez_publish/documentation/building_an_ez_publish_site ?

If not, I think this is what you should start with. :-)

Thank you, I have, but I still don't see where to add custom html.

And I found that the packages for such as the forum are no longer included in ez publish itself so those docs are out of date. I found the download for the forum and installed it but I do not see how to incoroprate it or activate it.

The packages can be installed by going to setup/packages and choosing Import New. Select the ezpkg file that you downloaded, and then follow the steps of the wizard.

This will import the templates and classes, and you can then use those to create your forum. If you need to modify the templates, you will find them in the standard design folder, and you should override them in your site's design folder (or an extension).

Thanks Mark.

Ok, I understand what you're explaining as far as editing the existing template files for certain modfications. So you're saying that is how to add custom HTML? I was hoping there were less involved steps to hand this over to a newbie (even more newb than me :)

I'm still confused about the forum. I have the package for the forum imported. I don't understand how to build a page from that. I go to Content Structure, I'm not given any options to build a forum, just add additional folders and the forum is not listed as a component.

As far as editing an existing .tpl file, is the only way to do it is download it with a regular html editor (or edit by hand from command line)? Is there no way to edit it with the built in editor in ez pub?

Ok, got the .tpl thing down for the most part. I've found the correct one and making some changes, all good.

Still need some assistance with getting the grasp of creating a new page for the forum package that I uploaded.

Thanks.

I have done this recently - this is how I did it:

1. Download the forum.ezpkg file http://packages.ez.no/ezpublish/3.8/forum.ezpkg
2. Go to setup -packages
3. Import New Package - browse and upload the forum.ezpkg file
4. Choose to install the package once it has been uploaded
5. Map base to the site and admin to the admin section of your site (they shold be in the drop down lists
6. Select the node where you want the Forums folder to be
7. You should get a page which startes that the package has been installed

Then you can go to that folder in the content section of the site and add forums as you wish
