Fixed time selection

I'm developing a set of policy documents which have a 'last reviewed' date and a 'review frequency' of one year, two years, three years or 'other' (special case to be detailed in the policy document).

The 'last reviewed date' is a date datatype.

I'd like to be able to present a dropdown of the 'review frequency' and then display the 'next review date' by adding the length of that parameter to the 'last review' date.

Is there a datatype which can produce a hidden value (a unix timestamp) for a selection, or would it be more resource efficient to process the '0', '1',... from a simple selection by creating and destroying variables for each value in a foreach loop? There are several hundred of these documents.
